How this site works

Daily Brief covers local government in Loudoun County and the Town of Leesburg, Virginia — school board meetings, the Board of Supervisors, land-use decisions and public-safety patterns — reported from the public record.

Where the stories come from

Every story starts with a primary source the site fetched itself: a meeting’s caption transcript, an agenda packet, an official summary, or a daily incident report. Stories are never rewritten from other outlets’ reporting. Where another outlet covered the same item, it is credited by name with a link.

How they are written

AI tools read the source, identify what was said and decided, and draft the story. A human editor reviews every draft against the source before it is published: who is named and on what basis, whether every quotation is verbatim, whether every figure and timestamp checks out. Nothing is published without that review.

Speakers are named only when the record shows how we know who was speaking — the chair recognizing them, a self-introduction, an announced presenter — and only officials acting in their public role. Students are never named. Crime coverage reports patterns, never individuals.

Where things can go wrong

Caption transcripts misrender names, figures and wording, so unintentional errors may exist even after review. Every article links its timestamps to the meeting video so any statement can be checked against the recording, and where the official minutes or summary differ from an article, they take precedence.

If you spot an error, report it. Every report is read by an editor, and corrected articles carry a note.
