Superintendent introduces new operations chief in report to Loudoun County School Board

Superintendent Dr. Aaron Spence introduced Aden Mamoon as the next Chief Operations Officer of Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) during his report to the Loudoun County School Board on August 11. The report was informational, and no board discussion or action followed. ^{2:21:06 2:24:00}

Spence said Mamoon joins LCPS from Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, where he served as that division’s Chief Operations Officer, and that he previously held the role of Director of Capital Programs in Frederick County Public Schools in Maryland. ^2:24:00

The superintendent then recapped staff events held ahead of the new school year. Division leaders gathered for Lead Loudoun on July 28 and 29, an event Spence said offered attendees access to almost 100 professional learning sessions over two days. New employees took part in Journey into LCPS last week, with sessions on building relationships, creating welcoming spaces and instructional strategies, and teachers and school staff were participating in professional development sessions this week. ^{2:24:00 2:25:13}

Spence also reported that the Division of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility hosted the Equity Lead Institute on August 4 and 5 at Harper Park Middle School. He said each LCPS school has an equity lead who partners with the principal, and that the institute focused on student and staff belonging and on student agency and voice. ^2:25:13

On back-to-school logistics, Spence said more than 65% of LCPS families had accessed ParentVUE and updated student information as of that morning. Class and bus schedules would become available the following day to families who completed the updates, and he said he expected more families to log in through the rest of the week. The English Learner Family and Community Engagement Office and the Department of Digital Innovation planned a ParentVUEpalooza on Saturday, August 15, at the Sterling Community Center to help families use the system. ^{2:25:13 2:26:21}

Spence said the Division of Family and Community Engagement, Head Start and McKinney-Vento teams met with families at the Leesburg Police Department’s National Night Out at the Douglas Community Center on August 4. He also said partner donations this year are supporting students across 15 schools, along with families connected through the Welcome Center and the McKinney-Vento program, and cited a 10-year partnership with Loud and Clear Marketing, Costco and the Rotary Club of the Broadlands that he said has provided more than 10,000 backpacks to children across Loudoun County. ^{2:26:21 2:27:26}
