Loudoun County School Board members read health benefit disclosures to open meeting

The Loudoun County School Board opened its Aug. 11, 2026 meeting with a series of conflict-of-interest disclosures, as members stated on the record that they are eligible to receive health insurance and related benefits through Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS). April Chandler (Chair; Board member, Algonkian District) called the meeting to order and read the first disclosure, describing it as connected to an item on the evening’s agenda regarding the budget and/or health insurance and related benefits, and any other discussion that may include or affect benefits for LCPS employees. She said the benefits affect thousands of employees, well in excess of the statutory three employees whose interests may also be affected, and that she is among them. ^0:02:26

Deana Griffiths (Board member, Ashburn District) read the same disclosure after the chair. Kari LaBell (Board member, Catoctin District) read the disclosure and added a second element, noting benefits she and her spouse receive through the school system as a former employee. ^{0:02:26 0:03:37}

Amy Riccardi (Board member, Sterling District) then read the same statement, followed by Lauren Shernoff (Board member, Leesburg District), who began reading the identical disclosure regarding eligibility for health insurance and related benefits as a School Board member. ^0:04:51
